District 2 School News: iTECH @ Thomas A. Edison Educational Center students spent the day meeting amazing talent and executives that run Cox Media Group in South Florida on January 23, 2017.

Thanks to Mr. Lindsey “Maestro” Powell for organizing this educational experience for our students. Students were able to speak with Mr. Tom Joyner, Mr. Rodney Baltimore, and Marketing executives about the exciting world of Media. Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Annual Parade

School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall (D-2) was proud to commemorate the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the annual parade in Liberty City on January 16, 2017.

We honor and salute Dr. King on his efforts to improve our democracy and ensure equal rights for all Americans. As Dr. King so eloquently stated, “Everybody can be great because anybody can serve.” 

Youth Center Grand Opening at Charles Hadley Park 

District 2 In The Community: School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall (D-2) was proud to attend the Samuel K. Johnson Youth Center Grand Cutting Ceremony at Charles Hadley Park in Liberty City on January 13, 2017.

Thanks to Mr. Luther Campbell, the Johnson Family, Chairman Keon Hardemon, City of Miami officials, and community leaders for working together to provide a safe, fun, and educational facility for our children. 

Registration Now Open – No More Broken Hearts Conference

School Board Member, Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall will host the 2016 “No More Broken Hearts” Domestic Violence Violence Workshop on Saturday, February 25, 2017, 9.a.m., at Georgia Jones-Ayers Middle School, School at 1331 N.W. 46th Street, in Miami. The one-day workshop will provide information on domestic violence intervention and prevention and link residents with service providers.

The workshop will include a conflict resolution and teen-dating violence tract for students facilitated by the Jonathan Spikes Foundation’s Affirming Youth and Urgent, Inc. Adult Panels titled, “Finding the U in You, What’s Love Got to Do with It: What is Domestic Violence, and How To Get Out,” will include discussions on intervention, prevention, and education.

More than 30 local organizations will be on hand to provide information and resources.  Complimentary breakfast and lunch will be provided.
