FAMU Rattlers “Strike” at Miami Jackson Senior

District 2 School News – Our students received a wonderful opportunity to attend the FAMU Presidential Tour held at Miami Jackson Senior High School. FAMU President Dr. Larry Robinson, First Lady Robinson, administrators, recruiters, the Royal Court, FAMU Connection, and alumni put on a grand presentation on why our students should attend an HBCU.

Many Happy Hearts awards $1,000 scholarship to Miami Edison student

School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall (D-2) was proud to attend the presentation of a $1,000 college scholarship to Honors student, Olisa Nelson Nwaofor, at Miami Edison Senior High School.

Zoe’s Dolls spread JOY to girls at Lillie C. Evans K-8 Center

School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall (D-2) was excited to join Zoe Terry and her organization, Zoe’s Dolls, to distribute dolls to 75 young girls at Lillie C. Evans K-8 Center.

We are so proud of Zoe and her great work. You are an inspiration to so many black and brown girls all across the world. As Zoe tells the girls, “I am Beautiful. I am Powerful. I am Loved.”


Celebrating the Dr. Marvin Dunn Academy for Community Education

School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall (D-2) was proud to celebrate the ribbon cutting ceremony of the Dr. Marvin Dunn Academy for Community Education in El Portal.

We honor Dr. Dunn for his commitment to educating our children and preserving our rich African-American history for generations to come. Go Jaguars!


Miami Edison Senior High’s fieldhouse renovation plans discussed at Facilities Meeting

School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall (D-2) meets with Principal Leon Maycock, Football Head Coach Luther Campbell, Associate Supt. Michael Lewis, Facilities Chief Jaime Torrens, and maintenance officials to discuss the athletic fieldhouse renovations at Miami Edison Senior High.

Our meeting plans will ensure our Red Raiders, student athletes, and coaches have a safe and operational facility to use and train in.


Grand Opening of King Carter Trade and Logistics Lab at Miami Northwestern High 

District 2 School News – Congratulations to our Bulls at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of the King Carter Trade and Logistics Lab housed at Miami Northwestern High School. The new approval will provide our students with the skills needed to apply for well paying jobs right here in Miami-Dade County. 

Great job to Principal Wallace Aristide, administrators, professors, staff, students, fellow Board Members, Supt. Carvalho, District staff, and community leaders for commemorating this great occasion. Special thanks to Mr. Antonio and Monica Carter, Ms. Tawanna Akins, and family for keeping the legacy of lol King Carter alive!
