2nd Annual HBCU Symposium “Expanding Our Horizons” at FMU

School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall (D-2) was honored to serve as a panelist at the 2nd Annual HBCU Symposium “Expanding Our Horizons” held March 30th at Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens.  

Special thanks to President Dr. Roslyn Clark Artis for hosting this wonderful event at your beautiful campus. Special Shout Out to Mr. Marquise McGriff for founding and convening this educational experience for students attending Miami Northwestern, Turner Tech, and Young Women’s Prep. 

Poinciana Park and Orchard Villa Elementary Students showcase their talents with Miami-Dade Transit

District 2 School News – School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall (D-2) was proud to attend the Miami-Dade County Public Transit Student Poetry Unveiling at Poinciana Park Elementary School. Great job to our talented students attending Poinciana Park and Orchard Villa Elementary Schools for their artistic expressions which will be displayed on a bright yellow transit bus.

90th Anniversary Celebration for Booker T. Washington Senior High 

School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall (D-2) was excited to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of Booker T. Washington Senior High School in Overtown.  The Celebration began with proclamations presented by local officials to Principal William Aristide and BTW Alumni Association. Soon after, a parade featuring BTW Marching Band, athletes, student leaders, Miami Northwestern and Miami Central Marching Bands, FIU Education Effect and Junkanoos danced and marched through the streets of Overtown. 

Great job to Principal Arisitide, administration, Activities Director Kim Wright, teachers, staff, students, and alumni for organizing a grand celebration. Go Tornadoes! 

Honoring the late Dorothy Height at the Commemorative Stamp Dedication Ceremony in Liberty City 

School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross Mindingall (D-2) was honored to co-sponsor the Dorothy Height Commemorative Forever Stamp Dedication Ceremony held at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center in Liberty City on March 14, 2017.

Thanks to the Metropolitan Dade County Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., elected officials, and community for planning and supporting this important event. A Special thanks to the talented Ms. Leia Armbrister, senior at Miami Northwestern Sr. PAVAC, for her stirring rendition of the Negro National Anthem. 

Charles R. Drew K-8 Center Drumline performs at School Board Meeting

School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall (D-2) was excited to hear the Charles R. Drew K-8 Center Drumline perform at the March 15th School Board Meeting. Great job to future Superintendent Ethan Taylor and student musicians for making us proud and representing Liberty City so well.

Honoring Booker T. Washington Senior High School’s 90th Anniversary at the School Board Meeting 

School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall (D-2) was proud to honor Booker T. Washington Senior High School with a proclamation at the March 15th School Board Meeting.  The school, opened in 1926 as the only school for African-American students, will celebrate its 90th Anniversary this week in Overtown. 

We salute Principal William Aristide, administration, teachers, staff, teachers, and BTW alumni for educating and supporting our students. Go Tornadoes!  

Honoring St. Arthur Lodge #488 at the School Board Meeting
